Y. T. HSU SCHOLARSHIPS 2005

Two Graduate Studentships are available at St John's College from 1 October 2005.

The awards are intended to support or partially support Modern History students in the field of nineteenth-century Chinese history. Applicants with an interest in any aspect of the latter are encouraged to apply although special consideration may be given to those studying the area of the Anglo-French Expedition in Beijing (1858-60) and Boxer Rebellion (1900).

The awards are open to those who have already embarked upon a degree at Oxford University, or those applying to begin a degree in the autumn of 2005. International Students who wish to apply will also need to secure an ORS Award.

The awards will provide both College and University fees at the home rate, and will also provide maintenance. The awards will continue, subject to satisfactory progress, up to the end of the normal period of study of the degree for which the student is registered at the time of taking up the award, subject to a maximum of three years. Additional funding may also be granted to the successful candidates for the purposes of editing and sorting the primary sources and materials in English archives, relating to the Anglo-French Expedition in Beijing (1858) and Boxer Rebellion (1900).

Selection will be by application form and references, and the submission of written work may be requested. There will be no interview. For an application form please contact the Tutor for Graduates' Secretary, St John's College, Oxford, OX1 3JP (e-mail graduate.admissions@sjc.ox.ac.uk).
