Institute of Public Health: Notice

The General Board, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board of Clinical Medicine and the Committee of Management of the Institute of Public Health, have revised the regulations for the Management of the Institute (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 566), with effect from 1 January 2005, to take account of the change in organizational structure of the NHS, the establishment of the MRC Epidemiology Unit in Cambridge, the growing importance of teaching and research in general practice, and the withdrawal from Cambridge of Parke-Davis and Company Limited (latterly taken over by Pfizer). The regulations have been amended as follows:

Regulation 1.

By amending the classes of the Committee of Management so as to read:

(a)the Director;
(b)the Regius Professor of Physic;
(c)the Head of the Department of Public Health and Primary Care;
(d)the Professor of Epidemiology and Medicine;
(e)one person appointed by the General Board;
(f)three persons appointed by the Faculty Board of Clinical Medicine, one after consultation with each of the following: the Head of the Department of Public Health and Primary Care; the Professor of General Practice (who may be appointed to serve as the member); and the Regional Director of Public Health (East of England);
(g)the Director of the MRC Epidemiology Unit, the Director of the MRC Biostatistics Unit, and the Director of the MRC Centre in Cambridge, or their deputies;
(h)the Regional Director of Public Health (East of England) and the Director of Public Health of the Norfolk, Suffolk, and Cambridgeshire Strategic Health Authority, or their deputies;
(i)not more than four persons co-opted at the discretion of the Committee.

Regulation 2.

By amending the cross-references to classes in line 1 '(d) and (e)' to '(e) and (f)' and in line 2 '(h)' to '(i)'.
