University Lectureship in Theoretical Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry wishes to appoint a University Lecturer in Theoretical Chemistry to take up appointment on 1 October 2005 or as soon as possible thereafter. Candidates should have a strong research background in any branch of theoretical chemistry and must be able to teach at undergraduate level across a wide range of topics. The Department is particularly interested to hear from applicants whose research interests include the quantum theory of dynamics or molecular structure.

Appointment to a University Lectureship is for three or five years in the first instance, with reappointment thereafter to the retiring age subject to satisfactory performance. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is £24,820 a year, rising by eleven annual increments to £38,303 a year.

Applications should include a curriculum vitae, a publications list, the names and addresses of three referees, and a statement (of up to eight pages) covering research experience to date and research plans for the future, and should be sent to Dr H. Computer Officer, Grade II (Data Network Systems Specialist), in the University Computing Service

The University Computing Service is seeking a Data Network Systems Specialist to work with the small team that maintains the Cambridge University Data Network (CUDN), and who will contribute to its future design and development to meet the growing needs of the University. Educated to degree level in computer science, engineering, a physical science, or mathematics, the post-holder will have had five years' experience in data networks service provision in a higher education or similar environment. The post-holder will also have a thorough knowledge of the lower layers of the IP protocol suite including areas such as VPNs, NAT, and firewalling. Familiarity with Cisco IOS, Unix systems - including C programming and use of scripting languages - and Microsoft Windows will be advantageous.

This is a permanent appointment at the level of Computer Officer, Grade II, subject to a nine-month probationary period. The pensionable scale of stipends for a Computer Officer, Grade II, is £30,362 to £32,666, with initial salary depending on experience.
