Comus Prize for Musical Composition

An initiative of the Kinsella Trust, the Comus Prize will be awarded for an original, unperformed work setting a text by a living writer. It may be a dramatic or lyric work, and should be scored for one or more solo voices and one or more instruments, not to exceed fifteen performers in total. The complete work should be no longer than twenty minutes. All members of the University in statu pupillari are eligible to apply.

The Prize will be a single award of £500, though a shared Prize may be awarded in the event of two equally appropriate candidates. In addition, up to £250 will be made available to support a performance of the winning work. The Prize will not be awarded twice to the same person. The judges reserve the right to make no award, and, if they wish, to make honourable mention of another entry or entries of outstanding merit.

Entries should be in conventional staff notation, loose leaf, and must not bear the composer's name. Four copies should be sent, with a covering note of the author's name, College, and home address to the Senior Tutor, Churchill College, Cambridge, CB3 0DS. They should arrive by the end of the Lent Full Term 2005. The award of the Prize will be announced by the end of Easter Full Term, 2005.
