SHAW PROFESSORSHIP OF CHINESE

Applications are invited for the above post, tenable from 1 October 2005, or such later date as may be arranged. The Professor will be a scholar of international distinction in any area or areas of specialization in pre-Modern Chinese Studies, broadly conceived; will provide academic leadership in promoting and sustaining research and teaching within the Faculty of Oriental Studies; and will contribute fully to the development and delivery of the aims and objectives of the Faculty. A non-stipendiary Fellowship at University College is attached to the Professorship.

TAYLOR PROFESSORSHIP OF THE GERMAN LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE

Applications are invited for the above post, tenable from 1 October 2005. The Professor will be an outstanding scholar of international distinction who will play a leading role in promoting and sustaining the study of the modern period of German language and literature in the Modern Languages Faculty. The successful candidate will play a full and active part in the development and delivery of the Faculty's strategies in relation to teaching and research over a wide range of German studies. A non-stipendiary Fellowship at The Queen's College is attached to the Professorship. VIOLETTE AND SAMUEL GLASSTONE RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS IN SCIENCE

Applications are invited for the above Research Fellowships, tenable at the University of Oxford, in the fields of Plant Sciences, Chemistry (Inorganic, Organic, or Physical), Engineering, Mathematics, Materials Science, and Physics. The Fellowships will be tenable for one year with a possibility of renewal for up to two further years. The awards will be available from 1 October 2005 or as soon as possible thereafter.

There is one Fellowship for men and one Fellowship for women (supported from the Glasstone Fund for Men and the Glasstone Fund for Women respectively). The salary will be on the RSIA scale (currently from £19,460 to £29,128). Additional travel and research support grants are available.

Applicants should have submitted for their doctorate by the time of taking up a Fellowship (normally 1 October of the year in which the offer is made). There is no age limit but applicants should not normally have had more than five years of postdoctoral research experience.
