The General Board, on the recommendation of the Management Committee of the Isaac Newton Institute, have agreed to rescind Regulation 2 of the regulations for the staff of the Institute (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 630). This regulation governs the appointment of the Director of the Institute, which is concurrently held by the N. M. Rothschild & Sons Professor of Mathematical Sciences. The regulations for the Professorship (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 690) set out the procedure for appointment to the Professorship and the Management Committee consider that there is a possibility of confusion if the provisions under the staff of the Institute are retained.
The General Board have also agreed that Regulation 1 of the regulations for staff of the Institute should be amended so as to read:
1. There shall be a Director of the Institute who shall be the N. M. Rothschild & Sons Professor of Mathematical Sciences.
