PROFESSORSHIP OR READERSHIP OF SOCIOLOGY

Applications are invited for either the Professorship or the Readership of Sociology, tenable from 1 October 2005 or such other date as may be arranged. The post, to which a Fellowship at St Hugh's College is attached, will be held in the Department of Sociology.

The Professor or Reader will have an international research reputation and a distinguished and active research record of high-quality publications in an area of Sociology which will complement and enhance the Department's existing profile within Sociology. The person appointed must have a commitment to substantive research, a record of success in obtaining and managing research funding, and must be able to demonstrate evidence of teaching excellence at the graduate level and the ability to undertake supervision of graduate students within a broad field of sociology. The Professor will have a proven record of recognized intellectual leadership; the Reader will show promise of such leadership.
