Magdalen College proposes to elect, in February 2005, one or two Junior Research Fellows, known as Fellows by Examination. Candidates should have a good Honours degree or its equivalent and have completed, or be near to completing a doctorate or other postgraduate research. They will already have demonstrated outstanding promise in their chosen field. In any event the candidate must not have completed more than four years' graduate study by 1 October 2004. There is no restriction on the number of times an applicant may apply for this post.
Each Fellowship is tenable for three years at a stipend starting at £15,508 a year rising annually on 1 October. The Fellow is a member of the Governing Body of the College and is entitled to free lunches and dinners, to a research allowance, and either to free rooms or to a discretionary housing allowance. It is likely that successful candidates will be required to live within a certain radius of Oxford during the period of their appointment.
