Examination in Archaeology for the degree of Master of Philosophy

With effect from 1 October 2004

A new option has been introduced for this examination for candidates who already have a substantial background in archaeology. The regulations have been amended as follows:

Regulation 1.

By inserting in line 2 after the words 'or Option B' the words 'or Option C' and by inserting the following section for Option C:

Option C. Archaeological Research

(i)a thesis, of not more than 15,000 words in length, including footnotes and appendices, but excluding bibliography, on a topic approved by the Degree Committee for the Faculty of Archaeology and Anthropology;
and 
(ii)three essays or projects, each of not more than 4,000 words in length, on subjects relating to archaeological research design chosen by the candidate in consultation with his/her supervisor;
and 
(iii)the presentation of a research seminar on the topic of the candidate's thesis research;
and 
(iv)one workbook of assessment of materials on research methods on topics announced by the Degree Committee.
