University Offices

Computer Officer, Grade I or Grade II (Unix Administrator), in the Management Information Services Division

A vacancy exists for a Computer Officer, Grade I or Grade II (dependent on experience), in the Management Information Services Division of the University Offices, to take up appointment as soon as possible.

The Division hosts and supports the University administrative services including office automation systems, Web, and major applications, all of which are based on Oracle relational databases. Supported applications include, Finance, Student Records, Personnel, Payroll, and Pensions. The majority of supported service run on Sun Solaris servers, however some Linux and VMS services are also supported by the Division.

The post-holder will be expected to perform all aspects of Unix administration in these environments, working closely with system administration and support staff and liaising with third parties. Candidates should be educated to degree level or equivalent with extensive experience of Unix and Web administration, security issues, back-up and recovery, and Sun hardware. Exposure to Oracle or PeopleSoft environments and/or database administration would be advantageous.

The pensionable scale of stipends for a Computer Officer, Grade I and II, ranges from £29,478 to £37,187 a year. The starting salary will depend on experience.

Assistant Under-Librarian in the Medical Library of the University Library

This post requires a highly skilled professional to work in, and contribute to, the development of a library serving one of the UK's leading clinical schools and associated teaching hospitals and research laboratories.

Candidates should have a good honours degree and a postgraduate or other appropriate professional qualification, together with relevant experience in a healthcare library. The pensionable scale of stipends for an Assistant Under-Librarian is £21,852 to £28,279 a year.
