Girton College

On Saturday, 10 July at 5 p.m. in the Old Hall there is a special College performance: 'An Evening with Eugénie Strong' performed by Alastair Crawford. 'An Evening with Eugénie Strong' is a two-act dramatic reading, derived from letters and photographs found in Rome which charts the success and downfall of a brilliant classical art historian during the rise of Fascism. It reveals the private and passionate world just below the surface of respectable scholarship. Eugénie Strong (née Sellars, 1860-1943) was the first Research Fellow and Life Fellow of Girton, 1910-43. She was a distinguished classical archaeologist who spent most of her working life in Rome.
