REGULATIONS FOR EXAMINATIONS: NOTICE BY THE GENERAL BOARD

The General Board give notice that, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board or other authority concerned, the regulations for certain University examinations have been amended as follows:

Modern and Medieval Languages Tripos

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 335)

The regulations have been amended (i) to permit, with certain restrictions, candidates for Part II of the Modern and Medieval Languages Tripos who borrow papers from other Triposes to submit alternative exercises where these are permitted in the other Tripos regulations, (ii) to prevent candidates who fail language papers in Part IB from taking papers in the same language at Part II, (iii) to remove Paper CS 3 (The Slavonic languages) from the papers available in Part IB, and (iv), from 1 October 2005, to suspend Paper Fr. 12 (A special subject in French culture).

With effect from 1 October 2004

Part II

Regulation 24.

By adding the following proviso:

provided that a candidate who offers a dissertation under (a)(iii), (b)(ii), (c)(ii), or (d)(iii) may not also offer two papers from Schedule D that are assessed by means other than a written examination, unless the Faculty Board has given special permission for the candidate to do so.

Regulations 25-30.

By renumbering these regulations as 26-31 and amending cross-references, and by inserting the following as Regulation 25:

25. A student who is a candidate for Part II under Regulations 4(a) or 4(b)(i) who has not achieved a satisfactory standard, as defined by the Faculty Board, either in Paper B3 or in the aggregated marks of Papers B1 and B2 in any language in the examination for Part IB, may not offer Papers C1 or C2 in that language.

SCHEDULE IB.

By removing Paper CS 3 from Schedule IB.

SCHEDULE D.

By amending the rubric in Schedule D so as to read:

Subject to the provisions of Regulation 24, candidates for the Modern and Medieval Languages Tripos who take any of the papers in this schedule may submit the alternative exercises permitted for those papers.

With effect from 1 October 2005

SCHEDULES B AND II.

By suspending Paper Fr. 12 (A special subject in French culture) from Schedules B and II. (This paper will not be available for examination in 2006, or until further notice.)
