Announcement of lectures, etc.

The following lectures, etc. will be open to members of the University and others who are interested:

East Asia Institute and Pugwash Society. The East Asia Institute and the Pugwash Society will be hosting a talk entitled Hiroshima + 60: current Japanese views on nuclear weapons, given by Professor Hitoshi Ohnishi, of Tohoku University, Japan, on 9 March, between 3 p.m. and 4.30 p.m. in the Bowett Room (Lyon Court), Queens' College.

Engineering. The fourth lecture in the second series of Distinguished Lectures in Sustainable Development will be given by Professor Richard Carter, of Cranfield University, in the Lecture Theatre, Peterhouse, at 5.30 p.m. for 6 p.m. on 10 March. The title of the lecture is Water and poverty: will the dream of sustainable development be realized?

Centre of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies. The John Bennett Memorial Lecture, entitled Money, sex, and power in the Abbasid Harim, will be give by Professor Hugh Hennedy, of the University of St Andrews, at 5 p.m. on 11 March, in Mill Lane Lecture Room 4.
