Posts in the Finance Division of the University Offices

Administrative Officer, Grade I (Finance Adviser)

The Management Accounts team has responsibility for preparing budgetary information and providing financial advice, management information, and support to Faculties and Departments across the University (total turnover is approx. £460m).

The post-holder will provide support to a specific portfolio of Departments, will respond to demands, and will be pro-active in identifying potential problem areas, suggesting corrective action where applicable. This will involve working closely with staff at all levels across the University.

Excellent communication, analytical, and IT skills are required, alongside three years' experience, preferably in a large organization. The post-holder will be a strong team player, ideally working towards a recognized professional accounting qualification.

The pensionable scale of stipends for an Administrative Officer, Grade I, is £25,451, rising by five annual increments to £30,660 a year.

Administrative Officer, Grade II (Deputy Manager of Transaction Processing and Control)

The Transaction Processing and Control team is responsible for the University's Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Cash Management functions. This includes production and dispatch of over 10,000 payments, 27,500 invoices, and control accounts. The team also provides a full cashiering service and a wide range of advice, using a helpdesk facility to the University's 180 Faculties and Departments.

The post-holder will provide high quality technical advice to departmental staff and will deputize for the Section Head.

Significant financial experience (ideally within transaction processing) is required, alongside a good technical knowledge of financial systems and processes, and the ability to devise solutions to problems and lead projects. Previous staff management experience is desirable. The post-holder must be educated to 'A' Level or equivalent.

The pensionable scale of stipends for an Administrative Officer, Grade II, is £21,125, rising by six annual increments to £27,339 a year.

Administrator in the Department of Engineering (University Gas Turbine Partnership)

Applications are invited for the post of Administrator, University Gas Turbine Partnership (UGTP). This is a collaboration between the University and Rolls-Royce Plc, and spans the research activities of some 20 academic staff and 60 Research Associates and students. The main responsibilities of the Administrator are to develop and take responsibility for financial planning and control within the UGTP, including preparing information for budgeting, invoicing, and cost statements, and to provide administrative support to the Director and staff involved in the 50 plus research contracts running within the UGTP.

The Administrator should have an excellent track record of administrative and financial experience, preferably in the HE sector. A first degree is essential and an accountancy qualification would be an advantage. The successful applicant will have excellent analytical, interpersonal, and written communication skills, and will have demonstrated the ability to co-ordinate and prioritize work to tight deadlines.

The appointment is on the Secretary of Department Grade C* level (equivalent to Administrative Officer, Grade I) with salary in the range of £25,451 to £30,660 a year, and will be initially for three years, starting 1 January 2004, or as soon as possible thereafter.
