Report of the RPC Working Group on Ownership of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs): amendment

The Chairman of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Oxford has contacted the Chairman of the Working Group on IPRs in connection with paragraph 3.1.12 of their report. Details of the relationship between Oxford and Beeson Gregory (an investment bank) can be found at http://www.chem.ox.ac.uk/newlab.html. Beeson Gregory have provided £20m towards the cost of the new Chemistry Building at Oxford. In return, the University of Oxford will transfer a share of its future rights to equity in spin-out companies arising from the Chemistry Department to Beeson Gregory for the next fifteen years. The Working Group understand that under these terms IPR remains the property of the University of Oxford. The Working Group therefore wish to delete the sentence 'The Oxford Chemistry Department set a precedent for a deal of this kind' in paragraph 3.1.12 from their report.
