Contributory Pension Scheme: Notice

21 July 2003

The Council give notice that, subject to the approval of Grace 3, p. 1219, they have approved amendments of the Rules of the Contributory Pension Scheme in order to give effect to changes in the Scheme as set out below. The proposed amendments have been recommended by the Contributory Pension Scheme Managing Committee.

Eligibility (Rules 1.1 and 43.1(e))

Since April 2001 it has been possible under certain circumstances to contribute to a personal pension or a stakeholder pension arrangement at the same time as being a member of an occupational pension scheme. The proposed amendment adds the definition of a stakeholder scheme to the Rules and amends Rule 43.1(e) to permit concurrency.

Maternity Absence (Rule 47.6 - 47.12)

New provisions for maternity leave came into effect in April 2000 and in April 2003 and as a result it has been necessary to amend the rules covering maternity absence to take account of these changes.

Full details of the changes and copies of the Rules of the Contributory Pension Scheme can be obtained from Mrs S. E. Curryer, Head of Pensions Administration, 10 Peas Hill, Cambridge, CB3 3PN.
