Graces submitted to the Regent House on 23 July 2003

The Council submit the following Graces to the Regent House. These Graces, other than any which is withdrawn or for which a ballot is requested in accordance with the regulations for Graces of the Regent House (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 113), will be deemed to have been approved at 4 p.m. on Friday, 1 August 2003.

1. That the recommendations in paragraph 5.2 of the Joint Report of the Council and the General Board, dated 17 and 12 March 2003, on arrangements for the regrading of certain offices and posts, and for the award of discretionary increments (Reporter, p. 771) be approved.1

2. That the recommendations in paragraph 7 of the Joint Report of the Council and the General Board, dated 12 May and 30 April 2003, on a policy for race equality (Reporter, p. 923) be approved.2

3. That the Council be authorized to approve certain amendments of the Rules of the Contributory Pension Scheme.3

4. That the following draft regulation be approved with effect from the date of approval of the amendments of Statute A, III, 7(e) made by Grace 5 of 26 February 2003 by Her Majesty in Council.4

REGULATION FOR MEMBERSHIP OF THE REGENT HOUSE IN CLASS (e) of STATUTE A, III, 7

The categories of membership of the Regent House under Statute A, III, 7(e) shall be:

(i) holders of the appointments of Senior Research Associate, Research Associate, Lecturer (unestablished), and Assistant Lecturer (unestablished);
(ii) in any College: persons holding the office of Tutor, Assistant Tutor, Steward or Bursar or Assistant Bursar; or College Lecturer (if held full time in a College or Colleges). The Head of any College shall certify in writing to the Registrary by 1 October each year the names of such persons;
(iii) Computer Associates, Grades I, II, and III;
(iv) Affiliated Lecturers;
(v) holders of appointments on the staff of the Local Examination Syndicate as Group Chief Executive, Chief Executive, Deputy Chief Executive, Director, Assistant Director, and Senior Manager;

provided that no person shall qualify for membership in categories (i), (iii), or (iv) unless he or she is also a member of a Faculty, or holds an appointment listed in those categories in a Department or other University institution which is independent of a Faculty.

5. That the recommendations in paragraph 53 of the Report of the Council, dated 16 June 2003, on the financial position of the Chest, recommending allocations for 2002-03 (Reporter, p. 1074) be approved.5
