Natural Sciences Tripos

(Statutes and Ordinances, p. 365)

With effect from 1 October 2003

The following amendments are:

(i) to reflect changes to the teaching programmes of the Department of Physics in Part IB of the Tripos, including changing the format of Part IB Advanced Physics to be considered as a single subject. The regulations remove the availability of Part IB Advanced Physics as a paper for Part II (General);
(ii) to take into account changes to the regulations in other Triposes.

Part Ib

Regulation 20.

By deleting the second sentence.

Regulation 21(b).

By adding 'Advanced Physics' to the lists of subjects in subsection (ii), deleting subsection (v), and renumbering the subsequent subsections.

Regulation 22.

By removing 'Advanced Physics' from group (ii) in the attached schedule and replacing the first five lines of the regulation by the following:

Every candidate shall offer three subjects, provided that

(a) not more than one subject shall be chosen from any one of the groups numbered (i) to (ix) below;

(b) any candidate offering Advanced Physics must also offer Physics.

Part II (General)

Regulation 26.

By replacing the third sentence of sub-paragraph (a) by the following:

In addition each candidate shall offer

either(i) the papers, and practical examinations if any, set for one subject from Part IB (other than Advanced Physics) and for one of the Special Subjects listed in (ii) below;
or(ii) the papers, and practical examinations if any, set for two of the following Special Subjects: Chemistry, Human Impact on the Environment, Pathology, Physics.

By removing in sub-paragraph (g) 'Advanced Physics' from groups (ii) and (viii).

By replacing in sub-paragraph (h) the words 'Paper 9' by the words 'Paper 8' in subsection (vi) and by adding a new subsection (vii) so as to read:

(vii) Experimental Psychology from Part IB of the Natural Sciences Tripos if he or she has previously offered Paper Psy. 2 in Part IIA of the Social and Political Sciences Tripos.
