Principal Assistant Registrary in the Academic Division of the University Offices

An experienced and innovative administrator is sought to lead the development of the University's central planning functions. Formally the office has responsibility as Head of the Planning and Resource Allocation Office (PRAO), within the Academic Division of the Unified Administrative Service. The vacancy offers an excellent opportunity for an energetic and talented individual to make a major contribution to the work of the University. Candidates should be educated to degree, or equivalent, level and have a minimum of ten years' working experience in a complex organizational structure, with a background in policy development and planning.

The pensionable stipend for a Principal Assistant Registrary is currently £46,053 (with a discretionary point at £47,870). Appointment will be to the retiring age subject to satisfactory completion of a probationary period.

Administrative Officers, Grades I/II, in the Finance Division of the University Offices

The University is seeking to appoint two Administrative Officers, Grades I/II (Finance Advisers), who will form part of the Finance Division team. The roles of the post-holders will include providing financial advice, management information, and support to Departments across the University. The post-holders will respond to demands and will be pro-active in identifying potential problem areas and suggesting corrective action, where appropriate. This will involve working closely with staff at all levels across the University.

Applicants should possess excellent communication, analytical, and IT skills. A knowledge of the Higher Education sector would be an advantage, but not essential. Ideally applicants will be working towards a recognized professional accounting qualification, or will have at least three years' experience preferably in a large organization.

The pensionable scale of stipends for an Administrative Officer, Grade I, is £25,451 to £30,660 a year. The pensionable scale of stipends for an Administrative Officer, Grade II, is £21,125 to £27,339 a year. Appointment will be to the retiring age subject to satisfactory completion of a probationary period.

New positions in the Cambridge Computational Biology Initiative

Applications are invited from scientists whose research is in any area of mathematics, statistics, or computer science, applied to substantive problems in biology or medicine, to take a leading part in the Cambridge Computational Biology Initiative. In addition to research, the duties of the successful applicants will be to co-ordinate a new one-year graduate course in computational biology and to lead the team that will teach for it.

The appointments will be for three years in the first instance and it is anticipated, subject to the availability of funding, that they will be renewed for a further period or periods. The grade of the appointments will be according to the candidates' qualifications and experience, either to Lecturer at an annual salary on the scale of £23,296 to £35,950, or Principal Research Associate at £43,607, or Director of Research at £49,685. The successful candidates will take office as soon as possible. It is expected that further members of the team will be appointed very shortly.

Administrator in the Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities (CRASSH)

An Administrator is sought to take up position in the Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities. The Administrator is responsible for administering the Centre. The post-holder will have contact with a wide range of people both within and outside the University. Good interpersonal skills are therefore essential. The duties require ability to exercise autonomy and authority, while working under the general direction of the Director and Deputy Director, to delegate to assistant staff as necessary, and to be able to work under pressure. The Administrator will need to be able to contribute to the planning and management of the Centre's IT system, and of its academic and fund-raising programme.

The appointment will be from 1 July 2003 to 31 December 2005. The pensionable scale of stipends will be £21,125 a year, rising by six annual increments to £27,339.
