Departmental Secretary, Grade C, in the Department of Clinical Veterinary Medicine

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the post of Departmental Secretary, Grade C (Administrative Matters) in the Department of Clinical Veterinary Medicine to take up appointment from 1 October 2003. The Assistant Secretary will be responsible to the Head of the Department for non-academic administration in the Department, including personnel matters, buildings, and security, and will work as part of a team with the Departmental Secretary and another Assistant Secretary.

Candidates should be educated at least to degree level. Previous relevant experience in an administrative post, preferably in the HE sector, is essential. The pensionable scale of stipends for a Departmental Secretary, Grade C, is £22,191 to £27,339 a year, dependent on experience.

Communications Manager in the Cambridge-MIT Institute (CMI)

CMI is looking for a Communications Manager to promote all aspects of CMI's activity. Working with a small internal team the post-holder will be responsible for the development, implementation, and overall management of the press, public relations, and Web strategy for CMI. He/she will also be responsible for responding to enquiries from the media, and acting as spokesperson when necessary, as well as developing and maintaining good relations with internal Principal Investigators on CMI projects at both Cambridge and MIT.

The post-holder will be a graduate, with good interpersonal skills, and will have high professional standards. He/she will have several years' relevant experience, ideally gained within both industry and academia. As well as having excellent writing and communication skills, the ability to work in a small and fast-moving organization, sometimes under considerable pressure, is essential. The post-holder will also need to demonstrate her/his ability to think strategically about communications issues.

The appointment is for three years in the first instance. Salary will be in the range of £25,451 to £30,660 a year, depending on age and experience.
