UNIVERSITY OFFICE

University Lecturer in the Faculty of Education

University Lecturer, to take up post in the Faculty of Education. Working closely with Professor Usha Goswami in setting up a Centre for Neuroscience in Education and establishing education-related research, the post-holder should be able to demonstrate successful experience in both ERP methodology and technology and the ability to apply this experience in innovative research, with a view to developing a research programme relevant to education, linking with neuroscientists in other departments where appropriate.

The post-holder will be an active researcher in ERP, able to maintain her/his own programme of research, as well as facilitating the ERP work of colleagues. He/she will take major responsibility for establishing and running a new ERP laboratory, and will also be expected to contribute to Faculty teaching related to cognitive and brain development. Applicants with prior expertise in ERP of language and/or development are particularly welcomed.

The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is £23,296, rising by eleven annual increments to £35,950. An appointment at University Lecturer level will be for three or five years in the first instance, with the possibility of reappointment to the retiring age, subject to satisfactory performance. The appointment will be from 1 October 2003 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Assistant Lecturers in the Faculty of History

American History before 1861. The post-holder will be expected to lecture on colonial and pre-civil war American History, but with the greatest emphasis on the colonial and early national period. Ref: AHB03.

Early Modern European History. The post-holder's principal duties will be to provide teaching for the following papers: Part I, Paper 16: Europe 1450-1760; Part II, Paper 18: The Cultural History of Early Modern Cities, 1450-1789. Preference may be given to candidates working in cultural and/or urban history. The post-holder will also be expected to contribute to the teaching of the new M.Phil. in Early Modern History. Ref: EMEH03.

Modern European History. The post-holder's principal duties will be to teach Paper 17 in Part I of the Historical Tripos, on Europe 1714-1890, and one of the Themes and Sources papers, the Revolutions and Revolutionaries in the Modern World 1789-1989. Ref: MEH03.

These temporary appointments will be tenable from 1 September or 1 October 2003, for a maximum term of twelve months full-time. The salary will be in the range of £21,125 a year.

Posts in the Management Information Services Division of the University Offices

Cambridge Student Information System (CamSIS)

The University is embarking on the implementation of a fully integrated Student Information System. Based on PeopleSoft the system will be accessible to staff and students throughout the University and Colleges. The Management Information Services Division is seeking development and support staff to take forward this important project.

Software Developer (Two posts)

Using Peopletools, the job-holders will be responsible for the specification, implementation, and testing of local adaptations to suit the University Business Processes. Candidates should have a track record in Peopletools development or a similar environment such as SAP or Oracle.

Business Analysts (Two posts)

Candidates must be practised in System and Business Process analysis and design. Post-holders will be required to assess the Business Processes in use in various sections of the University and Colleges and adapt them to work with the PeopleSoft product, specifying customization work for Software Developers to implement where this is essential.

Database Administrator

CamSIS will use an Oracle Database and an experienced DBA is required to take responsibility for the integrity and performance of the Database. The successful candidate will join a team of peers presently supporting the University Oracle Financial System (UFS).

Web Developer

The Division manages various Web services mostly in support of the University Administration (http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/). The Web development team is responsible for the management and development of these services, including integration with Oracle applications. An opportunity exists for a well-qualified candidate to co-ordinate and develop Web-based applications, liaise with editorial and design staff, and ensure adequate security is maintained.

Applicants should have experience of building and managing an Apache Web server, preferably within a commercial environment. The ideal candidate will have strong UNIX programming skills, particularly Perl/CGI. Experience of interfacing Web information with back-end databases and an awareness of Internet security issues is essential. Good communication skills and the ability to analyse requirements are also essential. This post will be available from 1 August 2003.

UNIX Systems Administrator

The Division supports many of its applications on LINUX and Sun Solaris. An experienced Unix Systems Administrator is needed to share the load of maintaining and developing UNIX platforms for an increasing number of Mission Critical application servers and websites. As well as excellent UNIX expertise and experience, candidates should have good communication skills, and the capability to work under pressure with occasional unsociable hours. This post will be available from 1 August 2003.

All posts are unestablished and will be for three years. The salary will be up to £35,950 a year. Isaac Newton Trust Affiliated Lectureship in the Faculty of Mathematics

The Faculty is in a position to recommend a College Teaching Officer within the area of Mathematics for an Affiliated Lectureship supported by the Isaac Newton Trust CTO scheme for a period of up to five years from 1 October 2003.

A principal purpose of the scheme is to increase CTO involvement in Faculty teaching. The duties are to give 24 lectures within the Faculty a year, to examine from time to time, to supervise Research Students, and to be involved in Faculty teaching arrangements. Details of the scheme and its payments are available at http://www.newtontrust.cam.ac.uk/.
