Historical Tripos, Part II, 2004: Amendments to subjects and periods

The Faculty Board of History give notice that they have amended their announcement of Special and Specified Subjects in respect of Special Subject Papers 1F and 2F, 1J and 2J, 1Q and 2Q, and Specified Papers 17 and 28 of Part II of the Historical Tripos, 2004 (Statutes and Ordinances, pp. 312-13, Reporter 12 June 2002, pp. 894-95, amended 29 January 2003, p. 519) as follows:

(i) by amending the title of Paper 1F and 2F from 'The politics of laughter: English satirical print 1730-1840' to 'No subject specified';
(ii) by amending the title of Paper 1J and 2J from 'L'Annee Terrible: war and revolution in France, 1870-71' to 'No subject specified';
(iii) by amending the title of Paper 1Q and 2Q from 'Martin Luther and the making of the German Reformation' to 'No subject specified';
(iv) by amending the title of Paper 17 from 'No subject specified' to 'Governance and community in England, 1550-1800';

and

(v) by amending the title of Paper 28 from 'No subject specified' to 'The history of Latin America in the colonial period, c. 1500-1830'.

Candidates for Part II in 2004, who have previously taken Part I of the Historical Tripos and who did not offer in that Part a paper falling mainly in the period before 1750, may meet the requirement to take a pre-1750 paper in Part II (Statutes and Ordinances, pp. 312-13) by offering one of the Special Subjects A, B, C, and E or by offering Paper 3 or one of the Papers 9, 12, 13, 14, 16, 18, 24 as previously announced, or Papers 17 or 28, or a dissertation, provided that its subject falls mainly in the period before 1750.

Candidates for Part II in 2004, who have previously taken Part I of the Historical Tripos and who did not offer in that Part a paper falling mainly in the period after 1750, may meet the requirement to take a post-1750 paper in Part II by offering one of the Special Subjects G, H, K, L, M, N, O, and P or by offering Papers 4 or 5 or one of the Papers 6, 7, 8, 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, 27, 29, as previously announced or a dissertation, provided that its subject falls mainly in the period after 1750.

Candidates for Part II in 2004, who have previously taken Part I of the Historical Tripos and who did not offer in that Part a paper in European History, may meet the requirement to take a European History paper in Part II by offering one of the following papers: 8, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20 as previously announced.

The Faculty Board are satisfied that no candidate's preparation will be adversely affected by this amendment.
