Statute approved: Notice

4 March 2003

The Registrary has received notice from the Clerk of the Privy Council that Her Majesty The Queen, at a Council held on 27 February 2003, was pleased to approve the amendments of Statute B which were submitted under the Common Seal of the University in accordance with Grace 4 of 12 June 2002 and Grace 4 of 17 July 2002.

The amendments authorized by the first of these Graces relate to Statute B, III, 5, which governs the number of terms to be kept by residence, and a consequential change to Statute B, III, 8 which governs allowance in respect of work done before matriculation; the existing provisions have been changed to enable candidates for the M.Phil. Degree to take advantage of joint courses with partner universities or similar institutions (see the Joint Report of the Council and the General Board, dated 25/13 March 2002, on the formulation of residence requirements for the M.Phil. Degree, Reporter, 2001-02, p. 649). Following the approval of this change of Statute, the amendments to the general regulations for the one-year M.Phil. Degree and the new regulations for residence for the degree of Master of Philosophy proposed in the Joint Report now come into effect.

The amendment authorized by the second of these Graces relates to the introduction of certain part-time courses; the requirement to keep terms by residence under Statute B, III, 5 has been amended so that it refers to students on full-time courses for the Ph.D., M.Sc., M.Litt. Degrees (see the Joint Report of the Council and the General Board, dated 13 May/24 April 2002, on the introduction of a part-time route to certain research degrees and certificates, Reporter, 2001-02, p. 763). Following the approval of this change of Statute, the amendments to the general regulations for admission as a Graduate Student and to the regulations for the M.Phil., Ph.D., M.Sc., M.Litt. Degrees and for Certificates of Postgraduate Study proposed in the Joint Report now come into effect.
