Merton College

BARNETT BEQUEST

The College wishes to advertise the Barnett Bequest to assist a UK candidate of outstanding academic excellence who wishes to read for the Bachelor of Civil Law (B.C.L.) at the University of Oxford from October 2003. Applications are invited from those who have already been accepted by the Faculty of Law to commence the B.C.L. in October 2003 and who have secured the offer of a place at another Oxford College, or those who have applied to commence the B.C.L. in October 2003 and who are still awaiting consideration of acceptance by the Faculty of Law. The value of the bequest is £2,800 for the year and is intended to assist with the cost of College fees and/or accommodation. This award is tenable only at Merton College; those already accepted by another Oxford College will be allowed to transfer in order to take up the award. Selection will be made on the basis of academic excellence and financial need.

The competition is open to graduates of any university with a first class honours degree, who are ordinarily resident in the UK and have been accepted to begin the B.C.L. at the University of Oxford in October 2003.

The College reserves the right not to award the Barnett Bequest in any given year should no suitable candidate present themselves.

Application forms and further particulars may be obtained by contacting the Secretary for Graduates, Merton College, Oxford, OX1 4JD
(e-mail julieg@admin.merton.ox.ac.uk). The closing date for applications is 2 September 2003.
