Lecturer in Education in the Faculty of Education

The Faculty of Education aims to strengthen Cambridge's national and international reputation as a leading centre for study and research in education and as a significant contributor to improving educational practice in partnership with schools, colleges, and other educational agencies. It is currently seeking an experienced lecturer to make a major contribution at graduate level to the teaching and co-ordination of educational research methodologies and/or the Faculty's work in school improvement and leadership.

The post-holder should be an active educational researcher able to demonstrate successful experience in both teacher development and improving educational practice, and possess the ability to apply this experience in innovative research and evaluation projects. He/she will take a major responsibility for continuing professional development and higher degree work, and may also be expected to contribute to other aspects of Faculty teaching such as the undergraduate and P.G.C.E. courses.

The post is available from 1 April 2003 for a fixed period ending on 31 December 2005. The salary will be on a scale of £23,296 to £35,950 a year. (An extension beyond that date will be subject to availability of funds.)

Research Facilitator in the Department of Chemical Engineering

The Department of Chemical Engineering wishes to appoint a Research Facilitator with the purpose of promoting and enhancing research within the Department. The post-holder will act to improve the Department's success in its research activities by providing professional, high-level research support to all members of staff within the Department, assist the Chairman of the Research Committee with the management of the Department's research activities, and promote the Department's external research profile. The post-holder will primarily foster, develop, and exploit research activity in chemical engineering, and will also be expected to provide advice and assistance to academic colleagues preparing individual research grant applications, and recruiting research workers. Good administrative, interpersonal, team-working, and IT skills, together with an in-depth knowledge of technical and research management issues will be essential, as will the ability to initiate new ideas and motivate others.

This is an unestablished appointment for a fixed term of five years, subject to the satisfactory completion of a probationary period of nine months. At the end of the five-year period, the post, its activities, and status will be reviewed. The salary will be in the range of £23,296 to £33,679 a year.

Radiation Protection Adviser in the Health and Safety Division

Radiation Protection Adviser required to take up appointment in the Health and Safety Division. Dynamic and proactive, the post-holder will be responsible for the provision of specialist advice on all matters relating to protection for ionizing radiations. As well as drawing up safety policy and procedures, the post-holder will initiate, lead, and co-ordinate enquiries into accidents/incidents, assist in the identification of training needs, and lead the schedule of ionizing radiation auditing.

A graduate in physics or a related subject, the candidate will have a minimum of five years' experience in radiation safety and ideally hold a valid certificate of competence as an RPA. Self-motivated, well-organized, and computer literate, the post-holder will be a strong communicator who can effectively deliver training, handle conflict, and secure commitment to safety.

The salary will be on the scale of £25,451 to £30,660 a year, with possible additional discretionary points up to a maximum of £33,065.
