Sciences

Queens' College intends to award one Research Studentship in any field in the sciences. The Studentship is intended to provide fees-only support, up to a maximum value of £1,500 a year, and is tenable for up to three years. The competition is open to all home graduate students, intending to commence research towards a Ph.D. Degree from 1 October 2003.

In each case, holders must become members of the College and must have indicated Queens' as their first preference in any application to the Board of Graduate Studies. The award of a Studentship is conditional upon the student being accepted by the relevant University Department (via the Board of Graduate Studies).

The closing date for completed applications is 19 May 2003. Applications should be made in writing (there is no application form) and must include a full curriculum vitae and a statement of the proposed research project (maximum four pages). Two letters of recommendation should be sent separately to reach the College by the closing date. Applications should be sent to the Admissions Co-ordinator, Queens' College, Cambridge, CB3 9ET.

MARY RYALL STUDENTSHIP

The Mary Ryall Memorial Trust announces the Mary Ryall Studentship 2003-04 (maximum annual value £8,000 a year for a maximum of three years) for newly-commencing Ph.D. Degree students at Queens' College in October 2003. The Mary Ryall Studentship is intended for research students from any country in sub-Saharan Africa, working in any subject. The Trust wishes to make an award to students who, for financial reasons, might not otherwise be able to take up a Cambridge place. Only Ph.D. Degree applicants who nominated Queens' College as their College of first preference in their original application to the Board of Graduate Studies are eligible to apply. The award is conditional on the applicant being accepted by the relevant University Faculty or Department and their becoming a member of Queens' College.

Candidates should apply to the College for an application form and return it together with a copy of their curriculum vitae, and a short statement of their proposed research. All information should be addressed to the Admissions Co-ordinator, Queens' College, Cambridge, CB3 9ET, to arrive by 19 May 2003. Applicants should ask two referees to write confidentially to the same address. References must be received by the deadline for applications.
