Applications are invited for the following University offices:

Departmental Secretary, Grade B, in the Department of Physics

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the post of Departmental Secretary, Grade B (Finance Manager), in the Department of Physics, to take up appointment on 1 April 2003 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The Finance Manager will be responsible to the Head of the Department for running the Departmental finance office, for providing financial management and financial information, and for maintaining systems to enable effective financial control.

The post-holder will work closely with the Academic Secretary and the Administrative Secretary. There will also be regular contact with the Finance Manager of the School of Physical Sciences, and with the Finance and Research Services Divisions of the University.

Candidates should be educated to degree level and should preferably hold a full accounting qualification. Candidates should also have a good understanding of business processes and financial systems. Previous relevant experience is essential.

The pensionable scale of stipends for a Departmental Secretary, Grade B, is £23,296 to £35,950 a year. The appointment will be to the retiring age, subject to the satisfactory completion of a probationary period.

Assistant Registrary in the University Offices (Press and Publications Office)

The Press and Publications Office is seeking a creative and strategic communications expert to promote key messages about the University through printed materials and its website. The post-holder will be expected to produce materials that support the public relations objectives of the University and anticipate information needs.

The post-holder will direct the publications team of two designers and a Web editor; the team is responsible for promoting the University's corporate identity and helps to enhance the University's reputation through the use of appropriate marketing strategies. A key part of the role will be to support the launch of the University's Visitor Centre.

Excellent writing skills, a good understanding of campaigns and marketing, familiarity with briefing designers, writers, and photographers, and good organizational skills are all prerequisites.
