A. J. Pressland Fund: Notice

BURSARIES FOR SCIENTISTS FOR LANGUAGE COURSES ABROAD

Applications are invited from those science undergraduates and research students (from Departments in the Schools of Physical and Biological Sciences and Technology), who will be continuing academic study in Cambridge in October 2003, for bursaries to attend language courses in another country (up to four weeks in duration).

The bursary will be of the order of £400 to £800, according to the nature of the course and the country concerned, contributing towards fees, travel, and subsistence. Applications should outline the reason for the proposed course of study, giving details of the selected institution and course structure to be followed, and a breakdown of fees, travel, and subsistence costs, with documentary evidence where possible of these costs. Contributions towards these costs from other sources, and details of any other applications and of grants already received, should also be stated.

Application forms are available from Mrs Christine Danson, Department Secretary, The Language Centre, 11 West Road (e-mail cd211@cus.cam.ac.uk), to whom four copies should be submitted by Friday, 2 May 2003.

When notified of awards, recipients of bursaries will be sent a form on which to write a report following completion of the course. A percentage of the bursary will be retained until the report and certificate, to prove attendance, is received by Mrs Danson. This must be received before the end of October 2003, unless otherwise agreed, or the bursary will be repayable in full.
