Boat Club

ACADEMIC SECRETARY

The governing body of the Boat Club intends to appoint an Academic Secretary from the beginning of the Easter Term 2003. The University Boat Club, founded in 1829, aims to produce athletes who achieve the highest standards of both sporting and academic success. The principal responsibilities of the Academic Secretary - which will entail an average time-commitment of around six hours a week - include general pastoral responsibility for a squad of approximately 24 undergraduate and graduate athletes; the provision of advice on the University's admissions procedures; occasionally representing the Club at meetings and competitions abroad; and active membership of the Club's governing body.

Applications for the post are invited from senior members of the University holding College or University teaching or research posts, and who hold a Fellowship of a Cambridge College. The successful applicant will be expected to have an interest in the sport of rowing, though not necessarily to have rowed. The appointment would be for one year initially, renewable thereafter at three-yearly intervals, to a maximum tenure of ten years. The Academic Secretary will receive an honorarium of not less than £6,000 a year, reviewable annually.

Letters of application, including a current curriculum vitae and the names of two referees, should be sent to Richard Pryce-Jones, Esq., Executive Secretary, Cambridge University Boat Club, the CUBC Goldie Boathouse, Kimberley Road, Cambridge, CB4 1HG, not later than Monday, 17 February 2003.
