University Lecturer/University Assistant Lecturer in the Faculty of Classics

Applications for this post in the field of Classical Latin Literature (to start by 1 October 2003) are invited from suitably qualified candidates. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the Faculty's teaching programme in Latin literature and language, and to engage in research in the field of Latin literature. Applications from scholars in the early stages of their career are particularly encouraged.

The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is £23,296, rising by eleven annual increments to £35,950. An appointment at University Lecturer level will be for three or five years in the first instance, with the possibility of reappointment to the retiring age, subject to satisfactory performance. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Assistant Lecturer is £20,311, rising by four annual increments to £25,451. An appointment at University Assistant Lecturer level will be for three years, with the possibility of reappointment for a further two years. The statutory limit of tenure of a University Assistant Lectureship is five years, but all holders of the office of University Assistant Lecturer are considered for possible reappointment to the office of University Lecturer during the course of their tenure.

Administrative Officer, Grade I or II, in the University Offices (Academic Division: Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages)

Administrative Officer in the Academic Division of the University Offices with responsibilities in the Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages, to take up appointment as soon as possible after 1 March 2003.

Candidates should be educated to degree level and have previous relevant experience in an administrative post, with proven ability in managing resources and staff, preferably gained in a higher education establishment.

Appointment will be for three years in the first instance, with the possibility of reappointment to the retiring age, subject to satisfactory performance. The pensionable scale of stipends for an Administrative Officer, Grade I, is from £25,451 to £30,660 a year. For an Administrative Officer, Grade II, it is from £21,125 to £27,339 a year.

Language Teaching Officer in the Faculty of Classics

Applications for this post (to start by 1 September 2003) are invited from suitably qualified candidates. The principal responsibilities will be to assist in the delivery of language teaching in the Faculty. The post-holder will assist in teaching language courses for undergraduates without A level Latin or Greek, as well as in the teaching of Greek and Latin language courses for other undergraduate and graduate students. The post-holder will also have the opportunity to be involved in the development of future strategies for language teaching in the light of changing needs in the Faculty. Job-shares and other flexible working arrangements will be considered.

The pensionable scale of stipends for a Language Teaching Officer is £18,265 rising by two annual increments to £20,311.

Development and Publicity Administrator in the Institute of Continuing Education

A Development and Publicity Administrator is required as soon as possible, to join the International Division of the Institute of Continuing Education.

Duties include maintaining the high profile of the International Summer Schools, increasing recruitment, preparing for development initiatives, and sharing in the day-to-day running of an extensive programme of Summer Schools for international students of all ages (18-80+). Excellent communication, computer, and organizational skills are required. Web and fund-raising skills would be beneficial. A good eye for detail and the ability to work under pressure is essential. The salary will be in the range of £21,125 to £27,339 a year, according to age and experience.

Neil Allam/Clifford Chance Lectureship in the Faculty of Law

The Faculty is seeking an appropriately-qualified individual for appointment to the Neil Allam/Clifford Chance Lectureship from 21 July 2003, or as agreed. The Lectureship is funded by Clifford Chance. The Lecturer will be expected to take charge of the administration of the Faculty's Double Maîtrise course with the University of Paris II, and of the Faculty's Erasmus and Socrates student exchange schemes. In addition the Lecturer will be expected to teach certain aspects of French Law at undergraduate level, to conduct research, and to participate in the general work of the Faculty. The appointment will be for three years in the first instance, with the possibility of renewal for a further two years. The pensionable salary will be £21,125 rising by four annual increments to £25,451.

Posts in the Judge Institute of Management Studies

Finance Officer

Applications are invited for this new post which will involve responsibility for all aspects of financial planning, management, and control. Candidates should be educated to degree level and have an accounting qualification, together with excellent IT, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Salary will be in the range of £25,451 to £30,660 a year.

Institute Secretary

Applications are invited for the post of Institute Secretary. The post-holder is responsible for personnel management and for overseeing the administrative systems and procedures which ensure the smooth and efficient running of the Business School. Candidates should be educated to degree level and must possess first-class personnel management skills. Salary will be in the range of £22,191 to £27,339 a year.
