Diploma in Architecture

With effect from 1 October 2003

The regulations have been amended to include a project report in the studio-work and by revising the course-work so that it consists of two exercises rather than the three currently required. These exercises are to be submitted through the candidate's Director of Studies.

Regulation 5.

By amending the regulation so as to read:

5. Subject to the provisions of Regulation 8, the first examination shall consist of studio-work and course-work.

(a) The studio-work shall be carried out during the academical year in which a candidate takes the examination, and shall be construed as including a project report whose technical elements are to be defined at the start of each year by the Diploma Committee. The studio-work shall be submitted to the Examiners not later than the last Wednesday of Full Easter Term.
(b) The course-work shall consist of two exercises, which may be either essays or, with the approval of the Diploma Committee, alternative exercises, each on a topic proposed by the candidate. One of these topics shall be submitted through the candidate's Director of Studies to the Departmental Secretary by the division of the Michaelmas Term, and one not later than the first quarter of the Lent Term, for the approval of the Diploma Committee. A candidate shall propose one topic in the history, theory, and practice of each of the following subject areas: (i) architecture; (ii) urban and regional development. An essay shall be of not more than 5,000 words in length; an alternative exercise shall be of comparable substance. One essay or alternative exercise shall be submitted to the Examiners not later than the first day of Full Lent Term and the other not later than the first day of Full Easter Term. Essays shall be in English and shall be typewritten unless previous permission has been obtained from the Diploma Committee to present them in manuscript.

A candidate will be called for viva voce examination in connection with the studio-work or the course-work or both.

Regulation 7.

By amending the first two sentences so as to read:

Subject to the provisions of Regulation 8, the Second Examination shall comprise (i) studio-work and (ii) submitted work, consisting of a dissertation or an alternative exercise approved by the Diploma Committee. The studio-work shall be carried out in the academical year in which the candidate takes the examination, and shall be construed as including a project report whose technical elements are to be defined at the start of each year by the Diploma Committee. The studio-work shall be submitted to the Examiners not later than the last Wednesday of Easter Term.
