St John's College

SENIOR TUTOR

St John's College wishes to appoint a Senior Tutor in succession to Mr Ray Jobling, who will retire in September 2003.

The role of the Senior Tutor is to oversee the educational and tutorial work of the College and to take responsibility, working with the Admissions Tutor and with the Tutor for Graduate Studies and through the appropriate College committees, for the admission, education, and welfare of undergraduate and graduate students. In addition to the Admissions Tutor and the Tutor for Graduate Studies, the Senior Tutor is supported by the Tutorial Office staff, and by an Assistant and a Secretary.

Applications are invited for the post of Senior Tutor, tenable from 1 October 2003. The appointment will be subject to the Statutes of the College and will be for three years in the first instance. Subsequent renewals will be subject to a code of practice that is available on request. The person appointed will be elected to a Fellowship of the College, and appointed to a College Lectureship in an appropriate subject with teaching duties of six hours a week.

BRIAN RUNNETT PRIZE COMPETITION 2003

The Brian Runnett Prize for organ playing is open to all Junior Members of the University.

1. The Competition will take place on Wednesday, 12 March 2003 in St John's College Chapel.

2. Candidates will be required to play:

(i) Choral Prelude - Allein Gott in der Höh sei Ehr (BWV 676). Bach.

(ii) Passacaille. Frank Martin.

3. The St John's College Chapel organ will be available for practice (two hours per candidate) during the fortnight before the Competition.

4. Intending candidates should inform the Organist of St John's College by Friday, 24 January 2003. In the event of a large entry, a short-listing procedure will be implemented.

5. There will be three adjudicators: Mr Simon Preston, Dr David Hill, and Dr Christopher Robinson.

6. The value of the prize is £240.
