Graces submitted to the Regent House on 11 December 2002

The Council submit the following Graces to the Regent House. These Graces, other than any which is withdrawn or for which a ballot is requested in accordance with the regulations for Graces of the Regent House (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 113), will be deemed to have been approved at 4 p.m. on Friday, 20 December 2002.

1. That Professor H. A. Chase, M, be appointed a member of the Finance Committee of the Council to serve for three years from 1 January 2003.

2. That Professor B. A. Hepple, Master of Clare College, be appointed as Chairman of the Septemviri until a permanent appointment is made.

3. That Dr S. G. Fleet, Master of Downing College, be appointed one of the Septemviri to serve for two years from 1 January 2003.

4. That Professor R. J. Mair, Master of Jesus College, be appointed one of the Septemviri to serve for two years from 1 January 2003.

5. That Professor P. Richards, President of Hughes Hall, be appointed one of the Septemviri to serve for two years from 1 January 2003.

6. That the recommendations in paragraph 23 of the Joint Report of the Council and the General Board, dated 22 July and 10 July 2002, on the changes required in the University's current employment practices as a result of the European Directive on Fixed Term Working (Reporter, 2001-02, p. 1256), as amended by the Council's Notice of 9 December 2002, be approved.1

7. That the recommendations in paragraph 6 of the Report of the General Board, dated 2 October 2002, on the introduction of a single procedure for the consideration of applications for promotion to personal Professorships, Readerships, and University Senior Lectureships (Reporter, 2002-03, p. 98), as amended by the Council's Notice of 9 December 2002, be approved.2

8. That the recommendations in paragraph 9 of the Annual Report of the General Board, dated 30 October 2002, on the establishment of personal Professorships and Readerships (Reporter, 2002-03, p. 293), as amended by the Council's Notice of 9 December 2002, be approved.3

9. That the nomination by the Junior Proctor of Richard James Stibbs, M.A., of Downing College, for election as an additional deputy Proctor for the remainder of the academical year 2002-03, be approved.4

4 Dr Vedia Izzet, who is currently a deputy Proctor, will be on maternity leave from 1 February 2003. The Junior Proctor has proposed that Mr Stibbs be appointed as a deputy Proctor in her place for the remainder of this academical year.
