Examination in Finance for the degree of Master of Philosophy, 2002-03: Notice

The Degree Committee for the Judge Institute of Management Studies give notice that in the academical year 2002-03 the subjects for examination in Finance for the M.Phil. Degree will be as listed below. The method of examination is shown for each subject.

Group 1 (compulsory subjects)

(1)Either S300 Econometrics (three-hour written examination and a project)
 or S301 Quantitative methods in economics and finance (three-hour written examination and a project)
(2)MP2   Principles of finance (three-hour written examination)

One of the following shall be taken as a Group 1 subject. The remaining subjects may be selected as Group 2 (optional papers).

 S403  Theory of finance (three-hour written examination)
 S410  Topics in financial economics (two essays of 2,000 words)
 MP14  Topics in empirical finance (one essay of 3,000 words and one project presentation of 1,000 words)

Group 2 (optional papers)

 S402  Microeconomics for finance (two-hour examination)
 MF1  Introduction to financial reporting (two-hour written assignment and one 2,000 word essay)
 MP3  Financial reporting and capital markets (two essays of 2,000 words)
 MP6  Topics in information management (one 2,000 word essay and course-work)
 MP10  Mathematical models in financial management (two-hour class assignment)
 MP13  Globalization and the impact of global big business (one essay of 4,000 words)
 MP15  Institutions of the modern corporation (one essay of 4,000 words and class presentation)
 TP5  Distribution networks (assessed by course-work)
 TP6  Real options for engineering systems (assessed by course-work)

Papers from Part III of the Mathematical Tripos:

 Advanced financial models (one three-hour written examination)
 Actuarial statistics (one two-hour written examination)
 Stochastic calculus and applications (one three-hour written examination)
 Time series and Monte Carlo inference (one three-hour written examination)
 Large deviations and queues (one two-hour written examination)
