OXFORD NOTICES

Merton College

DOMUS GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS

Merton College is offering three or four Domus Graduate Scholarships in 2003, in two separate competitions, A and B. The Scholarships are intended to assist students of outstanding academic excellence who for financial reasons would not otherwise be able to study at the University of Oxford. They cover full board and accommodation in the College, College and University fees, and an additional grant of approximately £4,000. Subject to satisfactory progress, the Scholarships will be tenable for three years.

Competition A is open to graduates of any university, who are not ordinarily resident in the UK, and who have not done more than two years of postgraduate study or research, and who propose to begin a course of study leading to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Oxford in October 2003 in any of the subjects normally acceptable for graduate study at the College, and who have no other funding which would allow them to do so. The College intends to award two Scholarships. The closing date for this competition is 21 February 2003.

Applicants who have not been accepted as doctoral students by the relevant Faculty or Department of the University by Friday, 14 March 2003, will be rejected. This process, over which the College has no control, may take about two months. Those interested in applying for the Scholarships should contact the Secretary for Graduates, Merton College, Oxford, OX1 4JD (tel. 01865 276299, fax 01865 286500, e-mail julieg@admin.merton.ox.ac.uk) as soon as possible to ask for further particulars.

Those who have not already applied for admission to the University are advised to contact the Oxford University Graduate Admissions Office, University Offices, Wellington Square, Oxford, OX1 2JD (e-mail graduate.admissions@admin.ox.ac.uk), or the relevant Department of the University. They should also consult the University's Graduate Studies Prospectus, obtainable from the Graduate Admissions Office, and on the University's home page at http://www.ox.ac.uk/, where departmental addresses and much other important information may be found.

Competition B is open to graduates of any university with a first-class Honours Degree, who are ordinarily resident in the UK, and who have not completed more than two years of postgraduate study or research, and who have been accepted to begin a course of study leading to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Oxford in October 2003 in any subject normally acceptable for graduate study at the College, and who have no other funding which would allow them to do so. The College intends to award one or two Scholarships. Those interested in applying should contact the Secretary for Graduates as above. Inquiries may be made at any time after 1 January 2003, but applications should be submitted no earlier than 15 August 2003. The closing date will be 1 September 2003.
