Pembroke College

MASTER

Pembroke College is seeking to elect a new Master, to succeed Sir Roger Tomkys who will retire in July 2004. Candidates must be of considerable ability, distinction, and experience, either in academic life or in some other field of activity, to provide leadership of a thriving, democratic, self-governing institution. An ability to represent and promote the College to the outside world is important. The College has an active development programme in which it is expected that the Master will be involved.

The post is open to both men and women. Election will be to the retiring age, normally 67, and it is expected that the successful candidate will serve for at least five years. The duties of the Master are to a degree negotiable; they do not necessarily require full-time activity. The salary will be commensurate with academic scales.

Both direct applications, and also suggestions as to candidates the College might approach, are welcomed. Further particulars may be obtained from the President, Pembroke College, Cambridge, CB2 IRF.

Information about the College is available on its website at http://www.pem.cam.ac.uk/.

COLLEGE LECTURESHIP AND MARK KAPLANOFF FELLOWSHIP IN HISTORY

Pembroke College invites applications for a College Lectureship in History with effect from 1 October 2003.

The College seeks a specialist in some aspect of History since 1800, excluding the British Isles, and with a preference for the history of the United States of America. The successful candidate will be expected to provide twelve hours a week of undergraduate supervision and to share in the Direction of Studies in History for the College. The post is tenable for three years in the first instance, with the possibility of renewal for a further two years, and carries with it an Official Fellowship at Pembroke College. The Fellowship will be named in memory of Dr Mark Kaplanoff, a former Fellow in History. Stipend will be in accordance with the scale for a University Assistant Lecturer, depending on the age and experience of the person appointed; preference may be given to candidates who have recently gained a Ph.D. Degree.

Application forms and further details of the position are available from the Tutor's Secretary, Pembroke College, Cambridge, CB2 1RF (pat.whitby@pem.cam.ac.uk), and online at http://www.pem.cam.ac.uk/jobs/, and should be returned by 10 January 2003. Selected candidates will be asked to submit written work shortly after the deadline for application; interviews will be held in the third week of February.

Pembroke College is an equal opportunities employer.
