University Clinical Veterinary Anatomist in the Department of Anatomy

Applications are invited from experienced veterinary graduates to fill the challenging and senior post of University Clinical Veterinary Anatomist. The person appointed is responsible to the Head of Department not only for teaching gross anatomy to veterinary students in an exciting and relevant way, but also for the organization and administration of the veterinary anatomy programme.

The Department is well equipped, with CCTV facilities in three veterinary teaching rooms (two dissecting rooms and museum), and a modern imaging suite providing video-endoscopes, x-ray, and ultrasound machines and computers cabled for network access. The appointee will be encouraged to continue the introduction of modern teaching approaches especially those which emphasize relevant and core material and which prepare students for the programmes in the Department of Clinical Veterinary Medicine, with which the Department expects to maintain close links. The Department is seeking someone who enjoys teaching and is eager to apply new ideas and imaginative solutions to the presentation of anatomical information. The appointee will be encouraged to contribute actively to the research life of the Anatomy Department.

The appointment will be for five years in the first instance, with the possibility of reappointment to the retiring age subject to satisfactory performance. The salary is currently £39,986 a year. University Lecturer/University Assistant Lecturer in the Faculty of Law

The Faculty are seeking appropriately-qualified individuals to teach Medical Law, and either Criminal Law or the Law of Tort, at undergraduate and possibly postgraduate level, to conduct and supervise research in the field of Medical Law, and to participate in the general work of the Faculty. Appointments made at University Lecturer level will be for an initial period of three or five years, with reappointment thereafter subject to satisfactory performance. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is currently £22,522 a year, rising by eleven annual increments to £34,734.

Appointments made at University Assistant Lecturer level will be for three years, with the possibility of reappointment for a further two years. The statutory limit of tenure of a University Assistant Lectureship is five years, but all holders of the office of University Assistant Lecturer are considered for possible appointment to the office of University Lecturer during the course of their tenure. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Assistant Lecturer is currently £19,681 a year, rising by six annual increments to £24,435.

Administrative Officer, Grade I, in the Corporate Liaison Office (Business Development Officer)

The Corporate Liaison Office is seeking a strongly self-motivated Administrative Officer, Grade I (Business Development Officer) to play an important role in fulfilling its mission to create and strengthen mutually beneficial relationships with partners in the local community, the region, and the global economy. This will involve working alongside an energetic team of professionals engaging with top academics, entrepreneurs, business leaders, and government bodies.

The Business Development Officer will work in a collaborative project-based environment leading some projects and contributing as a team member on others. The project portfolio in this busy office (twenty people) is varied and includes internal consultancy assignments, strategy development, corporate liaison, regional development, market analysis, business process design, business planning, brokerage, event management, Web system design, implementation, etc. In the first instance, the Business Development Officer for this vacancy will focus on developing, populating, and publishing an expertise database for the University. This will provide the platform for several future business innovations. The pensionable scale of stipends for an Administrative Officer, Grade I, is currently £24,435 to £29,709 a year, although a higher salary might be applicable to candidates with particularly relevant and extensive experience and capabilities.

The successful candidate will need project management and team working skills; listening, negotiation, and facilitation skills; written communication and presentation skills; business acumen combined with a knowledge of strategy, planning, and implementation; ability to work with the highest levels of academic, corporate, and government staff; a good Bachelor's degree (a Ph.D. Degree would be an advantage); understanding of Web systems and office applications (no coding required).

The post is full-time and pensionable. Funds are available for this post for three years in the first instance but it is expected that the post would, subject to the availability of funding, be renewed for further periods.

Temporary Teaching Post in the Faculty of English

The Faculty of English wishes to appoint to a temporary teaching post in the areas of Renaissance drama and Shakespeare in performance. The post, which has arisen due to AHRB-funded research leave, is effective from 1 January to 30 June 2003. The person appointed will be expected to provide twenty hours of Faculty teaching. The salary will be pro-rata on the first point of the University Assistant Lecturer scale, currently £20,470 a year. There will be opportunities to provide College supervision in these areas which will be separately remunerated.

Temporary Lectureship in the Department of Genetics

Applications are invited for a three year temporary Lectureship to replace Dr Cahir O'Kane, who is the recipient of a BBSRC Research development Fellowship. The appointment will be effective from 1 January 2003.

The person appointed will be expected to teach second- and third-year undergraduates in the general area of molecular genetics of eukaryotes. There will also be opportunities to undertake teaching in other areas of the undergraduate course, depending on the interests of the person appointed. The salary will be on point 13 of the Lecturer scale (currently £24,435). In exceptional circumstances the possibility of a higher salary may be considered.

Lecturer in the Department of Physics (Quantum Information and Quantum Computation)

The Semiconductor Physics Group within the Laboratory carries out a wide-ranging programme of research in nanoelectronics and mesoscopic physics, including experimental and theoretical studies in the areas of quantum information and quantum computation. The person appointed to the lectureship will have the responsibility of leading and co-ordinating the experimental and theoretical programmes in these areas. He/she will be expected to develop an internationally leading research activity as well as perform teaching duties, which will include lecturing to undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. Degree in Physics or Astronomy. It is hoped that the successful candidate will take up the position on 1 October 2003.

The pensionable salary will be in the range of £22,522 to £34,734 a year (pay award pending). The post will be for five years.
