Report of the Board of Scrutiny on CAPSA: Notice

30 September 2002

The Council have considered the remarks made at the Discussion on 11 June 2002 (Reporter, 2001-02, p. 938) of the Report of the Board of Scrutiny dated 9 May 2002 on CAPSA (p. 835). The Board's Report was a second response to the reports of Professors Shattock and Finkelstein. The remarks made in the Discussion summarized the Board's Report and made various comments on it. The Council associate themselves with the remarks made by Dr Reid and Professor Schofield who are both serving members of the University Council. The Council note that many of the major matters raised by the Board, or referred to in the Discussion (for example aspects of governance, the position of the principal officers, and the appointment of the next Vice-Chancellor) are or soon will be before the Regent House.

The Council are aware that there are problems, identified in the reports of Professors Shattock and Finkelstein, with communications within the University and are seeking solutions. With regard to the new Cambridge Student Information System (CamSIS), for example, widespread consultation with interested bodies has been undertaken.
