The University of Cambridge is one of the most distinguished universities in Europe and amongst the most eminent in the world. The University's sustained pursuit of academic excellence is built upon a long history of first-class teaching and research, within its distinctive collegiate system. Following the successful tenure of Professor Sir Alec Broers since 1996, the University is seeking his successor.

Candidates must be of exceptional calibre with academic credibility, clear strategic vision, and outstanding leadership qualities. They will have strong management skills gained at a senior level in a complex institution. The ability to promote the University in a regional, national, and international context will be key, particularly in order to realize the full potential of the University's eight-hundredth anniversary in 2009.

The University's principal goal is to continue to be at the pinnacle of research-intensive universities worldwide. Candidates must have the ability, enthusiasm, and commitment to sustain and develop this unique institution.
