Professorship of Oncological Pathology: Notice

A new Professorship in Oncological Pathology has been established within the Department of Pathology with the intention of furthering academic leadership in the application of molecular science to the diagnosis, classification, and management of human tumours. The post will be based at the Addenbrooke's Hospital campus, which is currently undergoing substantial expansion in the field of cancer studies. There are exciting opportunities to link fundamental studies in tumour biology to the pathology of human neoplasia. The successful applicant must be an outstanding medical scientist with expertise in the study of the nature and origin of tumours (which could include haematological neoplasia), their diagnosis and response to treatment, or the factors that render individuals susceptible to them.

Applicants must hold a registrable medical qualification, and will be expected to maintain active involvement in health service delivery in an appropriate specialism. Candidates with consultant-grade experience in histopathology would be particularly welcome, although senior medical scientists from other disciplines relevant to tumour diagnosis and management would also be eligible to apply. A consultant contract with the Addenbrooke's NHS Trust will be recommended, and salary will be at the appropriate point on the senior clinical academic scale.

Further information may be obtained from the Academic Secretary, Academic Division, University Offices, The Old Schools, Cambridge, CB2 1TT (e-mail ibise@admin.cam.ac.uk), to whom a letter of application, marked 'Confidential', including details of current and future research plans, a curriculum vitae, and a publications list should be sent, together with the names of two referees, so as to reach him not later than Friday, 21 June 2002.

Informal enquiries may be made to Professor Andrew H. Wyllie, FRS, Department of Pathology, Tennis Court Road, Cambridge, CB2 1QP (tel. 01223 333691, e-mail ahw21@cam.ac.uk). Information about the Department of Pathology can be obtained at http://www.path.cam.ac.uk/.
