Graces submitted to the Regent House on 15 May 2002

The Council submit the following Graces to the Regent House. These Graces, other than any which is withdrawn or for which a ballot is requested in accordance with the regulations for Graces of the Regent House (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 113), will be deemed to have been approved at 4 p.m. on Friday, 24 May 2002.

1. That the regulations for Discussions be amended as follows:1

Regulation 6.

By inserting between the first and second sentences the following:

The Registrary shall not include in the formal record any remarks which are ruled out of order or which are otherwise in breach of a procedural ruling by the Vice-Chancellor or other person presiding.

2. That the regulations for University Composition Fees, as amended by Grace 1 of 27 February 2002, be further amended as follows:2

Courses leading to examinations for the M.Phil. Degree

By amending the entry for Finance so as to read as follows:

With effect from 1 October 2002, by inserting the following entries:

Biological Anthropological Science D D F

Environmental Engineering and Sustainable Development D D F

3. That Regulation 3 for Addresses to the Sovereign (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 189) be amended by the replacement of the words 'six other members of the Senate' by the words 'six other members of the University'.3

4. That, on the recommendation of the General Board, the regulations for the Education Studies Tripos be amended, with effect from 1 October 2002, by adding the following Temporary Regulation:4

16. Notwithstanding the provisions of Regulation 3, a student who has obtained honours in Part I of the Education Tripos in 2002 or subsequent years may present himself or herself as a candidate for Part II of the Education Studies Tripos in the year next after so obtaining honours, provided that he or she takes the examination under Regulation 14(a).

5. That Regulation 5 of the regulations for the Ord Travel Fund be amended so as to read:5

5. Applications for grants, accompanied by a short description of the proposed travel, must be submitted through candidates' Tutors to the Registrary so as to arrive not later than the division of Lent Term.

6. That, on the nomination of Darwin College, Elisabeth Somerville Leedham-Green, M.A., Ph.D., of that College, be appointed a Pro-Proctor for the academical year 2002-03.

7. That, on the nomination of Robinson College, Christopher Forbes Forsyth, LL.B., Ph.D., of that College, be appointed a Pro-Proctor for the academical year 2002-03.

8. That, on the nomination of the Vice-Chancellor and the Proctors designate, David John Chivers, M.A., Ph.D., Sc.D., of Selwyn College, and Vedia Emel Izzet, Ph.D., of Christ's College, be appointed additional Pro-Proctors for the academical year 2002-03.

New subjects for examination for the M.Phil. Degree have recently been introduced and have been included in the Schedule: see the General Board's Notices, pp. 599 and 758.

3 The present regulations preclude the attendance of junior members on such occasions. Now that junior members take a full part in the government of the University the Council consider it appropriate that Vice-Chancellors have discretion to include their representatives in deputations in future.
