Director of Management Information Services Division

The University is seeking a high calibre individual to take on the challenge of leading and developing the progression of the Management Information Services Division.

The Director will play a key role in the efficient and effective running of the Division at a strategic and operational level, leading the co-ordinated approach to major complex projects. Developing close working relationships in this complex environment and gaining buy-in to a co-ordinated approach is key to the effectiveness and reputation of the Division. A track record of leadership of Information Systems/Services within a private or public sector organization of equivalent complexity is essential. The successful candidate will be capable of giving strategic direction to the Division, underpinned by up-to-date knowledge of technology, and will be experienced in leading complex projects in a climate of change. Higher education experience is not essential, although an empathy with its values is vital. Of greater importance is the ability to develop effective relationships and influence decisions with a broad range of interested parties.

University Lecturer in the Department of Engineering

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a University Lectureship in the field of Production Technology. This new post has been established as part of a significant expansion of the activities of the Institute for Manufacturing within the Manufacturing and Management Division. The person appointed will be expected to make a major contribution to the development of education and research in production process technology and to extend the Institute's strong links with industry. Applicants should have a broad background in engineering, materials science, or a related discipline, preferably with some industrial experience, and have a proven record of innovative research in manufacturing technology. Areas of interest might include conventional and unconventional machining, forming or joining processes, surface engineering, materials recycling, micro-scale fabrication, biomanufacturing, packaging, and the application of emerging materials.

The appointment will be for five years in the first instance, with the possibility of reappointment to the retiring age. The pensionable salary scale is £22,522 per year, rising by eleven annual increments to £34,734. There will be opportunities for consultancy work with industry through the Industry Links Unit of the Institute for Manufacturing. Limited start-up research funding is also available from the Department.

Departmental Secretary (Technical Resources), Grade C, in the Department of Chemical Engineering

Applications are invited for the post of Departmental Secretary (Technical Resources), Grade C, in the Department of Chemical Engineering, to take up appointment as soon as possible. The post-holder, who will be responsible to the Head of Department, will act as a Technical Resources Manager and will have wide ranging management roles in several key areas, such as assistant staff, personnel and management issues, buildings, services, finance, and providing support for the research and teaching of a busy organization. The post-holder will assist the Head of Department and the academic staff to develop and implement a Forward Plan for the Department's technical resources to facilitate the achievement of the highest quality in teaching and research.

The Secretary of the Department must be able to interpret, adapt, and implement detailed, and often complex, policies and procedures, and communicate them effectively to staff at all levels in the Department. Those appointed to the Secretaryship of a Department should normally be educated to degree level. The pensionable scale of stipends is £21,503 rising by five annual increments to £26,491. The appointment shall be for three years in the first instance, followed by reappointment subject to satisfactory performance.
