Vacancies in the University

The University is committed to equality of opportunity and has a policy on arrangements for part-time work.

Two University Lecturers and One Senior Research Associate in the Faculty of Engineering

Applications are invited for the above posts available now. The Engineering Department has recently begun an initiative in MicroElectroMechanical Systems (MEMS) partly funded through the Cambridge-MIT Institute (CMI), and as part of this the Faculty wishes to appoint two University Lecturers and one Senior Research Associate in this area. For one lectureship, preference will be given to candidates with experience in thin film material processing, and lithographic and characterization methods. The other lectureship is in the field of MEMS design, where a background in mechanics and/or design methods would be advantageous. For the Senior Research Associate post, preference will be given to candidates who have practical experience in the design, development, and use of MEMS devices.

A number of new fourth-year courses have been planned in the design, manufacture, and reliability of MEMS, with input from MIT in the short term in setting up these courses. The successful lectureship candidates will be expected to contribute to the planning, implementation, and teaching of such courses. All three successful candidates will also be expected to initiate independent areas of research in the broad area of MEMS. Initial appointment to the Lectureships will be for three or five years in the first instance with the possibility of reappointment to the retiring age. The Senior Research Associate post is a fixed-term five-year appointment. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is £22,522 a year rising by eleven annual increments to £34,734. For a Senior Research Associate the pensionable scale of stipends is £22,299 a year rising by nine annual increments to £32,215.
