The University anticipates establishing a new Professorship in Photonics of Molecular Materials in the Department of Engineering and invites applications. It is hoped that the successful candidate will take up appointment as soon as possible. Candidates are expected to have an international reputation in the development and application of soft materials such as liquid crystals and active polymers. It is also expected that the successful candidate will be instrumental in setting up a proposed 'Cambridge Centre for Molecular Materials for Photonics and Electronics' that aims to give applications focus to research on such soft materials. The appointment will be subject to the Statutes and Ordinances of the University.

Further information may be obtained from the Academic Secretary, University Offices, The Old Schools, Cambridge, CB2 1TT (e-mail ibise@admin.cam.ac.uk), to whom a letter of application, marked 'Confidential', including details of current and future research plans, a curriculum vitae, and a publications list should be sent, together with the names of two referees, so as to reach him not later than Friday, 29 March 2002.
