Merton College

STIPENDIARY LECTURER IN MODERN HISTORY

The College proposes to appoint a stipendiary lecturer in Modern History for one year, from September 2002, to teach up to twelve hours a week in the field of British and European history, 1330-1700. The lecturer will be paid on the stipendiary lecturer's scale (currently £17,626 a year) with entitlement to join USS and membership of Common Room with the right to take lunch and dinner free of charge. LEVENTIS GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP IN GREEK STUDIES

The College proposes to elect in 2003 a Leventis Graduate Scholar. The Scholarship will cover full board and accommodation in the College, College and University fees, and an additional grant of approximately £2,900 a year (currently under revision), making a total annual value of approximately £9,836 to £14,192, depending on the origin of the student. Subject to satisfactory progress, the Scholarship will be tenable for three years.

The award is open to both men and women who meet the following criteria: all candidates must be university graduates, who are citizens of the Republic of Greece or the Republic of Cyprus, and have not completed more than two years of postgraduate study or research, and propose to begin a doctorate at the University of Oxford in October 2003 in Greek Studies (including the study of Greek culture and civilization of the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean in any of their aspects), from the Bronze Age to A.D. 1453. It is not available for studies relating to Modern Greece, or at any other university.
