Graces submitted to the Regent House on 20 February 2002

The Council submit the following Graces to the Regent House. These Graces, other than any which is withdrawn or for which a ballot is requested in accordance with the regulations for Graces of the Regent House (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 113), will be deemed to have been approved at 4 p.m. on Friday, 1 March 2002.

1. That the Prince Philip Professorship of Technology to be held by Professor M. J. Kelly from 1 September 2002 be assigned to the Department of Engineering.1

2. That the recommendations in paragraph 6 of the Report of the General Board, dated 16 January 2002, on the establishment of a Professorship of Community Psychiatry (Reporter, p. 451) be approved.

3. That the recommendations in paragraph 6 of the Report of the General Board, dated 16 January 2002, on the establishment of a Professorship of Photonics of Molecular Materials (Reporter, p. 452) be approved.2

4. That Regulations 1-5 for the Herbarium in the Department of Plant Sciences be amended so as to read:3

  1. There shall be the following University offices on the staff of the Herbarium:
  (a) an office of Curator which shall be held concurrently with another University office in the Department of Plant Sciences;
  (b) such number of offices of Senior Assistant Curator or Assistant Curator as the General Board shall from time to time determine.
 

2. Appointments and reappointments to the office of Curator of the Herbarium shall be made by the Appointments Committee for the Faculty of Biology.

 

3. The Curator shall be responsible to the Head of the Department of Plant Sciences for the maintenance of the collection entrusted to his or her care, and for making it available for purposes of study and research.

 

4. The amount of teaching to be given by the Curator shall be determined by the Faculty Board of Biology after taking into account his or her curatorial duties.

 

5. The stipend of the Curator shall be his or her stipend as a University officer together with such payments for special responsibilities as Curator as may from time to time be approved by the General Board on the recommendation of the Faculty Board.


1 The Prince Philip Professorship of Technology was not initially assigned to a Faculty or Department, the assignment being deferred until after each election so as to take into account the interests of the person elected.
