UNIVERSITY OFFICES

Applications are invited for the following University offices:

University Lecturers and University Assistant Lecturers

Appointments made at University Lecturer level will be for three or five years in the first instance, with the possibility of reappointment to the retiring age. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is £22,522 a year, rising by eleven annual increments to £34,734.

Appointments made at University Assistant Lecturer level will be for three years, with the possibility of reappointment for a further two years. The statutory limit of tenure of a University Assistant Lectureship is five years, but all holders of the office of University Assistant Lecturer are considered for possible appointment to the office of University Lecturer during the course of their tenure. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Assistant Lecturer is £19,681 a year, rising by six annual increments to £24,435.

University Lecturer in the Department of Radiology (with an interest in Oncological Imaging)

University Lecturer at Consultant level in the Department of Radiology to take up appointment from 1 October 2002. The successful applicant, who will be recommended for an honorary consultant contract with the Addenbrooke's NHS Trust, will be required to undertake teaching, research, and clinical work. The appointment will be for five years in the first instance.

The successful candidate will be eligible to receive an additional payment for clinical responsibility related to the amount of NHS work undertaken. If, as expected, the Lecturer undertakes the equivalent of six or more NHS sessions a week of clinical work the payment will be such as to bring his or her total pensionable emoluments into line with a point on the NHS salary scale for consultants (from £50,810 to £66,120).

Posts in the Computer Laboratory

University Lecturer (Networks and Operating Systems)

Applications are invited for a University Lectureship in Networks and Operating Systems, to take up appointment on 1 April 2002, or as soon as possible thereafter. Candidates should have research interests in the broad area of communication networks and computer operating systems. The person appointed will be expected to teach central subjects in Computer Science in addition to their own specialities.

University Lecturer (Machine Learning)

Applications are invited for a University Lectureship in Machine Learning, to take up appointment on 1 April 2002, or as soon as possible thereafter. Candidates should have research interests in the broad area of machine learning or cognate disciplines. The person appointed will be expected to teach central subjects in Computer Science in addition to their own specialities.

University Lecturer in the Faculty of Education

The Faculty of Education aims to strengthen Cambridge's national and international reputation as a leading centre for study and research in education and as a significant contributor to improving educational practice in partnership with schools, colleges, and other educational agencies. The successful candidate will be an active educational researcher and will contribute to teaching within the Faculty's highly regarded programmes of initial teacher education, continuing professional development, advanced study, and research.

This appointment will enhance the Faculty's existing strengths in teacher education. Candidates should be able to demonstrate successful experience both in subject teaching (science and biology) and in educational research. The postholder will take a major responsibility for preparing secondary teachers in the subject within the Faculty's P.G.C.E. partnership with schools. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to other aspects of Faculty teaching, such as higher degree, continuing professional development, and undergraduate courses. The appointment is available from 1 September 2002.

University Lecturer/University Assistant Lecturer in the Faculty of English

The Faculty of English is seeking to appoint, at University Lecturer or University Assistant Lecturer level, to a post in Early Modern Literature. The appointment will be effective from 1 October 2002. Applications will be welcome from those working in the field of English Literature, 1500-1700.

University Lecturer in the Department of Experimental Psychology

Applications are invited for a University Lecturer in the Department of Experimental Psychology to take up appointment from 1 October 2002. The appointment will be made in the general area of human perception.

The appointment will be for five years in the first instance. University Lectureship in the Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics

Mathematicians with an established record of research in Computational Number Theory or related areas are invited to apply for this established post. The new Lecturer will be expected to play a full role in research activities in Cambridge in Number Theory. As part of his or her teaching duties, he or she will be expected to assist with the organization of undergraduate computer projects in Pure Mathematics, and will receive a compensating reduction in his or her lecturing and examining duties. The appointment should begin by 1 October 2002 but is available immediately.
