Supplementary payments for academic-related staff: Notice

29 January 2002

By approval of the Report on the recruitment, reward, and retention of academic and academic-related officers, (Reporter, 1997-98, pp. 804-17), the Regent House delegated power to decide ad hominem increases in the course of appointment to the competent authority (the Council or the General Board as the case may be) (see paragraphs 41 and 42, Reporter, 1997-98, p. 809).

As provided for in the Report, the Vice-Chancellor has completed a review of current remuneration of academic-related officers in the professorial grade, with the assistance of the Advisory Committee specified in paragraph 41 of the Report (comprising on this occasion Mrs A. M. Lonsdale, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Professor D. H. Mellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, and Dr Colin Lucas, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford). The Committee reviewed curricula vitae and supporting statements in respect of those eligible, taking account particularly of their contribution to the work of the University and the extent to which they have developed their roles as a result of effective commitment and effort. In the light of the Advisory Committee's recommendations, the Council and the General Board have now approved ad hominem enhancements of stipend, within the framework of professorial grade remuneration as set out in Annex 2 of the Report referred to.

The following data summarize the number of awards made in the current exercise at each level of enhancement.
