Administrative Secretary (Head of the Secretariat)

The University wishes to appoint to the recently established office of Administrative Secretary. The Administrative Secretary is the Head of the Secretariat, a Division of the Unified Administrative Service with responsibilities for the support of the Council and its main committees, for the progress of its business, for the Reporter, and other related matters. Reporting to the Registrary, he or she will manage the staff and other resources of the Division to meet those responsibilities, including planning for their development and quality assurance.

Candidates will be expected to be graduates or have equivalent professional qualifications together with substantial experience of management and administration in a complex organization, preferably but not necessarily in higher education. The appointment will be subject to the Statutes and Ordinances of the University. The University follows an equal opportunities policy.

University Lectureship in the Faculty of History

Applications are invited for a post in the field of Medieval Palaeography and Codicology. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in teaching medieval Latin palaeography and codicology at graduate level across the entire range of insular, medieval English, and continental scripts (book and documentary hands), and book production from 100 to 1500 AD, as well as an ability to supervise graduate research within the field. The appointment will be tenable from 1 October 2002, or as soon as possible thereafter. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is currently £22,522 rising by eleven annual increments to £34,734. The appointment will be for three years in the first instance with the possibility of reappointment to the retiring age.

Posts in the Corporate Liaison Office

Corporate Liaison Officers (Assistant Registrary/Administrative Officer, Grade I)

The Corporate Liaison Office already has an effective group working to develop the University's relations, particularly in collaborative research, with major global corporates. This is an opportunity to join this team, at CLO or Senior CLO level, depending upon experience and qualifications. The work is exceptionally interesting, concerning, as it does, engagement of some of the world's top academics with the most pressing concerns of some of the world's leading corporations. The salary for a Senior Corporate Liaison Officer is up to £34,050 a year, and for a Corporate Liaison Officer is up to £29,123 a year. The closing date for applications is 18 January. Interviews will be held on 4 February.

Regional and Business Innovation Officer (Senior Assistant Registrary)

This post establishes a new activity in the Office, parallel to the Corporate Liaison activity described above. The Officer will be head of this new Group, focused at optimizing the University's engagement with early-stage, high-tech, and knowledge-based companies and with the economic development agencies in the East of England Region. This is a senior and highly influential role that will demand significant strategic and people skills, experience of entrepreneurial business, and an interest in playing a major role in development of the Eastern Region into one of Europe's most successful regions for innovation, wealth creation, and balanced economic, social, and environmental development. The salary will be up to £39,198 a year. The closing date for applications is 31 January. Interviews will be held on 15 February.

Temporary Lectureship in the Faculty of History

Applications are invited for a temporary teaching post in the Faculty of History in the field of Early Modern British Political History. Preference will be given to candidates working in the seventeenth century. The appointment will be tenable from 1 September 2002, for a fixed term of two years. The post is available at a level equivalent to that of a University Assistant Lecturer on a salary scale limited to spinal point 8 (currently £19,681).

Public Health Teaching Specialist in the School of Clinical Medicine

Applications are invited for the post of Public Health Teaching Specialist. The weekly sessional commitment is four to six (subject to confirmation). Appropriate arrangements for release of these sessions from clinical commitments must be made and agreed with the employing authority and clinical colleagues.

The successful applicant will be required to:

develop and be responsible for the delivery of the integrated teaching of Public Health within the standard Clinical Course;

develop and be responsible for the delivery of the integrated teaching of Public Health within the Cambridge Graduate Course in Medicine (CGC) and the CGC Public Health Special Study Module;

deliver regular tutorials within clinical attachments;

develop and use a portfolio of clinical problems raised, public health curriculum covered, and assignments completed, by students;

and have a genuine commitment to undergraduate medical education, and will be able to work closely with both students and colleagues.

This is an unestablished, fixed-term (five-year) appointment (renewal being subject to funding and performance) by the University of Cambridge. The maximum salary is equivalent to that of NHS Consultant where a session represents 1/11 of an NHS Consultant full-time contract, respecting incremental dates.
