Social and Political Sciences Tripos, Part IIB, 2002

The Faculty Board of Social and Political Sciences give notice that the form of the examinations for the following papers, which will be held for the first time in 2002, will be as follows:

Pol. 7. A subject in modern politics II: Western Europe

This paper will be assessed either by one undivided three-hour paper, in which candidates will be asked to answer three questions, or by two 5,000-word essays.

Pol. 8. A subject in modern politics III: United States of America

This paper will be assessed either by one undivided three-hour paper, in which candidates will be asked to answer three questions, or by two 5,000-word essays.

Pol. 9. A subject in modern politics IV: Revolution

This paper will be assessed either by one divided three-hour paper, in which candidates will be asked to answer three questions, at least one from each section, or by two 5,000-word essays.

Pol. 11/4. A subject in modern politics I: The politics of Russia

This paper will be assessed by one three-hour divided paper; candidates will be asked to answer three questions, at least one from each section.

If taken as Pol. 11 this paper may alternatively be assessed by two 5,000-word essays.

Pol. 13. Conceptual issues and texts in politics

This paper will be assessed by one divided three-hour paper; candidates will be expected to answer two questions, one from each section.

Psy. 3. Developmental psychology

This paper will be assessed by one undivided three-hour paper; candidates will be asked to answer three questions.

Psy. 4. A subject in psychology I: Language

This paper will be assessed by one undivided three-hour paper; candidates will be asked to answer three questions.

Psy. 5. A subject in psychology II: Psychology and social issues

This paper will be assessed by one three-hour paper; candidates will be asked to answer three questions.

Soc. 3. A subject in sociology I: Political economy

This paper will be assessed by either one undivided three-hour paper, in which candidates will be expected to answer three questions, or by two 5,000-word essays.

Soc. 4. A subject in sociology II: Media, culture, and society

This paper will be assessed by either one divided three-hour paper, in which candidates will be asked to answer three questions, or by two 5,000-word essays.

Soc. 5. A subject in sociology III: Modern Britain

This paper will be assessed by either one undivided three-hour paper, in which candidates will be expected to answer three questions, or by two 5,000-word essays.

Int. 2. Inquiry and analysis II

This paper will be assessed by one undivided three-hour paper; candidates will be asked to answer three questions.

Int. 3. An interdisciplinary subject I: Medicine, health, and illness

This paper will be assessed either by one three-hour paper, in which candidates will be asked to answer three questions, by two 5,000-word essays.

Students taking either Part IIB Psychology within the Social Sciences or Psychology within the Social Sciences and Sociology must take the three-hour written paper.

Int. 4. An interdisciplinary subject II: Biotechnologies

This paper will be assessed either by one three-hour paper, in which candidates will be asked to answer three questions, or by two 5,000-word essays.

Int. 5. An interdisciplinary subject III: Women, gender, and society

This paper will be assessed by either one undivided three-hour paper, in which candidates will be expected to answer three questions, or by two 5,000-word essays or a dissertation.

Students taking either Part IIB Psychology within the Social Sciences or Psychology within the Social Sciences and Sociology must take the three-hour paper.

Int. 6. Crime and deviance

This paper will be assessed by either one three-hour paper, in which candidates will be asked to answer three questions, or, for Part IIB Sociology students not offering a dissertation, it may be assessed by two 5,000-word essays.

Students taking either Part IIB Psychology within the Social Sciences or Psychology within the Social Sciences and Sociology must take the three-hour written paper.

Int 7. Society, politics, and culture in Latin America

This paper will be assessed either by one three-hour paper, in which candidates will be asked to answer three questions, or by two 5,000-word essays.

Students taking Part IIB Psychology within the Social Sciences and Sociology must take the three-hour written paper.
